This Lenten season, what do we still believe in ourselves that we need to do for us to believe that God already forgave us? Or do we believe that we are already forgiven? How? Or why do we say so? What responses do we take to please and give delight unto the Lord? Is it real or just mere?
As for me, I believe there are no more sacrifices to make for the forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 10:18) because the penitence, the bruises, the stripes, and the death of JESUS CHRIST is MORE THAN ENOUGH. We only need to know, believe, accept and follow what God had told us, that JESUS is the ONLY WAY, TRUTH and LIFE (John 14:6).
But do we really understand the cause of Jesus why He was sent by God the Father? Do we really perceive that all His works are for us to be saved? Or are we still going to grieve in ourselves that we have or need to do such sacrifices for us to be forgiven?
As we remember, God tested Abraham to sacrifice Isaac as burnt offering. But why it did not happen? Because God would not let a human origin take the course of offering. For God himself will provide the lamb (Genesis 22:8), a lamb without blemish or defect (1 Peter 1:19). We need to understand that Jesus Christ is whom the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE (Isaiah 53:5-6, 10) for mankind. He is the Passover Lamb of God (1 Corinthians 5:7).
If we have believed and accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, then we also need to believe that He has already taken our iniquities. That by His blood, all our sins have been washed away. And that by His death, we are called to a life eternal. By this act, it entitles us to become sons and daughters of God. We are to be freed from bondages, from chains of brokenness, from the lies of the enemy. And we are to be given power and authority. But this does not end in just accepting for by accepting, we also need to follow His ways. It takes a lot of faith in obeying His commands.
Life in Christ is not like laying on the bed of roses. It does not feed us through a golden spoon. We need to act what and how we believe in Jesus. He lived a humble life, suffered in disgrace but exalted in heaven. Life in Christ needs to bear reproach but gains full reward in His kingdom. Life in Christ is setting apart ourselves from the pleasures and comforts of the world so we may live holy and acceptable before Him (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
I know these would not be easy but we only need to be intimate with Him to bear obedience for His glory for it leads to righteousness. But what are these things that we need to obey?
First, we need to obey in believing that Jesus is the Way! But do we deeply understand the meaning of the word “way”?
Way means path, road, or maybe a bridge, something or some kind that will let us cross to another point, place, area, destination. It may also be a thing for us to be connected. If referring to a person, it is best described as mediator. Yes! For real, Jesus is the ONLY MEDIATOR of man to God (1 Timothy 2:5). As Jesus said that no one comes to the Father except through him, we need not ask from any names for us to be given all our petition. Lo and behold, we need not ask somebody to be connected to Jesus. Keep it by heart that we only need to accept Him, then He will live within us (John 14:17, Galatians 2:20).
Second, we need to obey in believing that Jesus is the Truth! The truth here means the Word of God (John 1:1-2, 14). Jesus is the Word that we need to receive in order for us to be called children of God (John 1:12). There is no other word that we need to believe in but the name of Jesus.
And third is we need to obey in believing that Jesus is the Life! He came so we may have life (John 10:10b). God made us alive through the death of Christ (Ephesians 2:5). Now if we choose Jesus, then we can enjoy our lives fully (Deuteronomy 30:19-20).
Obedience in the Word of God is the key to take delight in the Presence of the Lord. It does not entail us to do it only in this season, but in every season of our lives.
If we want to obey God by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior but does not know how to start, we may take this prayer of forgiveness in our hearts. As we pray,
“Lord Jesus, I need You. Forgive me for all of my sins. Help me to gain eternal life. I open the door of my heart and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for dying on the cross for me. Take control of the throne of my life. Please write my name in the Book of Life and may I witness Your love and grace. Empower me everyday with Your Spirit that I may live my life for Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!”
